Dear Friends,
As we impatiently await the arrival of snow, it appears that our forecasted La Nina winter event is starting to look more like a Meh-Nina. We are as eager as you are to start skiing, but we still need a bit more snow to operate the chair lift and have a safe route down. Last weekend, I took advantage of our Season Passholder reciprocal discount with our friends at Hudson Bay Mountain, my kids and I had a great time.
We had hoped more snow would come this week allowing us to pull the trigger on a full mountain opening, but the reality is that we will need to remain patient. As you might have seen in our social media announcements:
“The green carpet will run from 11-3pm on both Saturday and Sunday. We will be opening the Panhandler Cafe (on reduced hours from 11am-2pm), with a fryer only menu.”
Our Climate Change Resiliency Project from last summer is allowing us to operate the base area, including the Green Carpet. Unfortunately, more work is needed to have a safe surface from top to bottom chair. On Sunday the 15th, we hope to also be offering tubing.
A significant system is currently forecasted to hit us towards the beginning of next week. Double digit numbers are forecasted here people. We are planning that this snowfall will be enough to get us fully open on Saturday the 21st. Just in time for Denis Rowse Retro day; where we will celebrate the late Denis Rowse, who skied at Shames until his early-90s on classic stainless steel Volant Skis.
If you have any Queen Elsa like powers, surefire Snow Dances, Ular rituals or any other means to lower the temperatures and bring the right kind of precipitation, please let us know. We absolutely appreciate the support, engagement, and passion for skiing that has been put on display during these modified operational weekends.
Ski you later
