Climate Change Resiliency Project Phase 7: Final Touches
Our Climate Change Resiliency Project is now into its final stages, and we are thrilled with the results. Last week’s post highlighted, from the air, the progress made.
With the lions share of the project completed. This is what happened this week:
- Capping the bisect road with granular crush.
- Finishing the base area grading.
- Silt fence installation.
- French drain/subsurface pipe installation.
- Armouring of various areas.
Most of the heavy equipment has now been demobilized from the mountain. The remaining work for this year will be completed over the next few weeks in time for the MMC-Shames Mountain Blueberry Fest on Saturday August 10th. Later in August, we will be hydroseeding and hand seeding the affected areas.
- Dana working on silt fence installations for sediment management (prior to hydroseeding) on the re-constructed black exit trail.
- Armoured outfall of one of the sub-surface drains installed on the re-constructed black exit trail.
- PVC 350 hoe armouring intake of installed sub-surface drain in re-constructed black exit trail.
- PVC rock truck dumping load used to improve black exit trail and re-constructed bisect road intersection.
- PVC rock truck backing in re-constructed black exit trail with load used to improve in black exit trail and reconstructed bisect road intersection. Maisie and Dana observe
- PVC D6 dozer fine levelling fill material while Rollyworks 308 hoe places armour on back of fill slope.
- Finishing work on base area regrading. PVC dozer levels material hauled in by Emil Anderson tandem, Rollyworks hoe places armour on back of fill slope.
- PVC dozer base area re-grading, PVC rock truck backing in with material from Emil Anderson’s Shames Road ditch maintenance. Rollyworks 308 hoe armours back of fill.
For safety reasons, we will close access to the base area from Monday to Friday until further notice.
This transformative project would not be possible without the help of incredible community partners. We would like to take the opportunity to showcase many of the smaller companies who put up their hands to help:
We are very fortunate and excited to have such incredible partners involved in the project. This week we are highlighting E360 Solutions and Maltin Consulting services.
E360 Solutions: have deep experience in waste management. They take a diligent approach and are transparent in everything they do, providing efficient and cost-effective end-to-end environmental management solutions. They have come on board with the CCRP and helped in supplying lowbed services and a tandem gravel truck for delivering crush materials. E360 Solutions are friends of the hill who were instrumental in helping us become the first ski hill in Canada to offer free lift tickets to children 12 and under. A program we are proud to continue into the 2024-2025 winter season. We are grateful for their continued support.
