March 13, 2025 by Shames Mountain in News

The Shames Mountain overnight parking committee recently met to discuss the program and ways to improve the overnight parking experience. The program has seen about 20% growth in 2025, with many guests purchasing the new overnight parking season pass, which is still available for SALE. We have also received inquiries from guests with tow-behind trailers regarding the existing policy.

The exclusion of tow-behinds or motorhomes larger than 23 feet is in place to reduce the risk of a vehicle ill-equipped for winter conditions causing a road closure. Such a closure could financially impact Shames Ski Resort by approximately $15,000.

Given the current weather and minimal snow on our access road, the committee has decided to suspend this exclusion for the remainder of the 2024-2025 ski season. Additionally, we agreed that owners of tow-behinds or motorhomes larger than 23 feet should be able to apply to My Mountain Coop for permission to overnight park at Shames on a case-by-case basis. The overnight parking committee will develop a Tow Behind and Motorhome exemption application for the 2025-2026 season. Shames operational staff will consider the tow-behind or motorhome length and model, the vehicle used for towing (and its tires), the weather forecast, and the vehicle owner’s willingness to complete a questionnaire/application form prior to overnight parking.

As parking committee members and proud, active Coop members, we aim to increase the sustainability and economic viability of My Mountain Coop. We see additional overnight parking use as a potential revenue stream and, more importantly, as a way for more people to enjoy the amazing resource and playground that is Shames Mountain.

Thank you

Overnight Parking Committee
