December 24, 2020 by Shames Staff in News

December 24, 2020
1:15 p.m.
It is with heartfelt sadness that we report that the 39-year-old missing snowboarder who was found outside the Shames Mountain boundary yesterday has passed away.
The missing snowboarder was located around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, December 23 beyond the Shames Mountain boundary. He was transported to Mills Memorial hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
“This is the saddest outcome possible and our hearts ache for his family and friends,” says Shames Mountain General Manager Christian Theberge. “Words can’t express the sincere and deep sense of loss we know people are feeling, and this news will be devastating for our close-knit mountain community.”
This is the first time Shames Mountain has experienced a fatality in its vicinity.
Shames Mountain and My Mountain Co-op is grateful for the expertise, support and dedication of Terrace Search and Rescue and their support in the search, in addition to Shames Mountain staff and other volunteers.
Out of respect for his family and friends and all those involved in the search, Shames Mountain will be closed until Boxing Day.
For any further information, please contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400. you can also see the RCMP’s news release here: http://bc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=2087&languageId=1&contentId=67563
