Shames Mountain is celebrating strengthened community partnerships that are helping expand access to winter recreation for families across the Northwest. The Public Library Snowsports Program provides four daily vouchers at each participating library that can be redeemed for a Discovery Lesson, a full set of rentals, or a full‑mountain lift ticket.

This season, the Terrace Community Forest (TCF) was the proud sponsor of the Terrace Public Library Snowsports Program, a beloved initiative that introduces locals to skiing and snowboarding. TCF’s continued leadership ensures more children in Terrace can experience the thrill of winter sport—many for the very first time.

Last winter, TCF also stepped up with critical funding to complete urgent repairs to one of Shames Mountain’s front-end loaders. This support helped maintain essential mountain operations, keeping the ski area safe and reliable during a challenging maintenance year.

Shames Mountain is also pleased to recognize a $50,000 contribution from the District of Kitimat, a major investment in regional recreation and community wellness. Of this total, $15,000 is dedicated specifically to supporting the Kitimat Public Library Snowsports Program, helping more people from Kitimat access affordable, high-quality snowsports experiences.

Acknowledging Prince Rupert

Shames Mountain would also like to acknowledge that we were not successful this year in securing a sponsor for the Prince Rupert Public Library Snowsports Program. We apologize for this gap and remain committed to working with community partners to bring this program back in future seasons. Ensuring access for youth in Prince Rupert continues to be a priority, and we look forward to rebuilding this opportunity together.

These investments and partnerships directly strengthen Shames Mountain’s ability to offer inclusive programming, maintain vital infrastructure, and create accessible pathways to winter sport for families across the Northwest.

Shames Mountain extends heartfelt thanks to the Terrace Community Forest and the District of Kitimat for their continued commitment to community well-being, youth recreation, and the long-term sustainability of our community-owned ski area.
