Hello MMC!

Hard to believe it’s that time of year again… We’re down to the final couple weekends for what has been a wild and crazy year. Here are a few updates from our March meeting to get you up to speed.

FINANCIALS

  • In spite of this being a tough year for conditions, we have pulled through financially. As mentioned in the December memo and thanks to fewer operating days and less fuel consumption, warmer temps, less grooming and less demand on our lifts, we have been able to catch up.
  • Attendance was up 12% for the second half of the season, this in a reduced 4 day a week schedule.

.

  • Next year’s season pass sale has started! Get your passess at last year’s rate before the pricing committee announces any changes for next year!

OPERATIONS

  • We have had lots of exciting events this year which have helped to increase attendance. Thanks to the organizers and to everyone who came out!
  • Our chairlift was recently tested for downloading and it MOSTLY passed! We’ll require a few creative adaptations for loading/unloading, but this will open the door to the possibility of summer events and other opportunities we haven’t been able to consider in the past.
  • Our Snow Report and Webcams are live on the website – bookmark this deadly resource for early morning check-ins!

OVERNIGHT PARKING

  • The overnight parking subcommittee has had a series of productive meetings over the past few months and will soon be coming forward with recommendations.
  • OVERNIGHT PARKING SURVEY
  • Unfortunately, we are now aware that until our water and sewage system has been upgraded, we are unable to apply for the permits that are required to build additional outhouses or other facilities. Rest assured, this is on the to-do list!

UPHILL PROGRAM

  • Earlier this season, our uphill subcommittee came together to create the uphill pass and related policies. We are currently in the process of collecting feedback in order to review the program before next year’s plan is finalized. Please take a moment to respond to the recent SURVEY sent out on March 11th.

BACKCOUNTRY SUBCOMMITTEE

  • Pollywood now has a gorgeous new sign and has been getting lots of action this year!

PRICING SUBCOMMITTEE

  • Our annual pricing committee will begin to meet again soon. Please reach out if you are interested in being part of this important decision making process this year.

PROJECTS

  • Earthworks and water mitigation work are being planned for this summer with the goal of being able to open earlier and with less snow. The funding for this project is still being finalized but involves corporate, local government, and individual contributions from all three of our neighbouring communities.
  • Ongoing progress is being made with the REDIP base area master planning project. The board expects to meet with the involved stakeholders next month to begin looking at next steps and additional funding opportunities to make these plans a reality.
    • Proposed lodge upgrades will be released soon for members to check out! Nobody panic, no final decisions have been made.

EVENTS

  • Watch our events calendar for information about the fun stuff that’s happening over the next couple of weeks!

NEWS

  • Closing weekend is approaching, please have a look at the most recent LETTER FROM MANAGEMENT for information about what to expect.

Thanks for reading MMC! Put on your short shorts and ski you out there!
