New Funding Expands Access and Introduces Transportation Credit for Northern Youth
We are delighted to announce that AltaGas has generously contributed $20,000 to our Northern Snow Angels program, this underlines their commitment to supporting youth development and outdoor participation in our communities. The Northern Snow Angel Program is available to all Groups participating in our school and group programs. The goal of this program is to help provide access to those students who want to participate in a snow sport yet are unable to afford the cost.
This significant contribution will allow us to further reduce barriers to participation, particularly costs related to transportation and participation —two of the most pressing challenges facing schools and groups in northern regions. In previous years, the Northern Snow Angels program enabled schools to fund individual participants, helping more youth experience the joy and benefits of alpine activities.
Thanks to this donation from AltaGas, as well as the ongoing support from other community partners, we are excited to announce a major expansion of the program. For the first time, eligible participants will have access to a transportation credit of up to $500, designed specifically to help those who need assistance covering the costs of getting to the mountain. This transportation credit will open doors for youth who might otherwise be unable to participate, fostering greater inclusion and community engagement.
“We are deeply grateful for AltaGas’s support,” said Christian Theberge, Shames Mountain General Manager. “Their contribution will help us reach more young people, break down the barriers to participation, and inspire a lifelong love of winter sport and outdoor adventure.”
AltaGas’s commitment to youth and community aligns with the core mission of Northern Snow Angels: to provide equitable opportunities for all young people to enjoy healthy, active lifestyles and build connections through snow sports.
