My Mountain Co-op is run by a Volunteer Board of Directors. The Board has nine director seats. Positions are for three years. Members collectively choose individuals they think will best lead and direct the co-operative. Any member can become a Board Member!
The primary role of a Director is to oversee and direct the affairs of the organization. While being true to our mission statement and vision, the MMC Board of Directors ensures that the co-operative and Shames Mountain incorporate MMC’s four cornerstones into every facet of their organization.
The cornerstones of My Mountain Coop and the Board of Directors are: Collaborative, Affordable, Sustainable and Innovative.
Your Directors
Kelly Gingles was born and raised in Terrace. Kelly was taught to ski at 2 years old, and used to ski race on the original mountain, Kitsumkalum. Kelly continued ski racing on Shames Mountain which was the vision of his father, Junior Gingles, and his father’s friends and business associates. Kelly then did a work-term, as a ski and snowboard instructor for a season while completing is BCOMM degree at UVIC. Kelly has worked for, then purchased and operated his family’s business that operated the franchise “National Car Rental” in many cities supporting the mountain with years of fleet support. He and his wife Linda have raised three daughters who all love the snow at Shames. Kelly’s favorite run is Juniors Jingle.

Rob Schibli has been a Shames skier since moving to Terrace from Smithers in 1991. Coaching with the ski club, while raising four skiers and riders on the mountain, Rob is now excited to introduce his first granddaughter to Shames. Rob’s background is in engineering, project management and asset management.

Rod Cox has been involved in a wide range of industries and brings over four decades of accounting, financial and general business management experience to the board. He holds Certified Professional Bookkeeper and Accredited Director designations. He has served on many boards over the years including the BC Games Society (1999 – 2010), the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (2013 – 2022), the BC Chamber of Commerce (2010 to 2016, ongoing as a Governor) and Northern Savings Credit Union (2015 to present).

Caitlin DuBiel comes from Vancouver Island and moved to the northwest in 2015. Shames Mountain played a pivotal role this decision and she hasn’t looked back. She works as a physiotherapist in Terrace and in a number of remote First Nation’s communities and spends the weekends rock climbing along the Skeena corridor, mountain biking, or skiing the beautiful Shames terrain. She hopes to be able to provide a strong voice for Prince Rupert members at the table. Her love of spreadsheets makes her a great candidate for the role of secretary.

In 2010, Eric Fraser took a trip with his brother to explore skiing and fishing in the northwest and fell in love with the pristine nature and wonderful people. Fast forward to 2022, where an opportunity arose to work on the new Mills Memorial Hospital project as a Project Manager. Eric jumped on this opportunity and has enjoyed integrating into the Terrace community. He has experience helping to operate multiple DIY community art and music spaces. He has design and construction experience as a Professional Engineer and has built relationships with community boards through time as Project Manager with the City of Edmonton. Outside of work, Eric has an active field recording/sound practice and can be found deejaying and producing dance and experimental music. As a board member, Eric will help to take existing MMC projects over the finish line and to help develop and deliver future visions for the community.

Tara Wilson has been riding Shames for over 25 years, building lifelong friendships and a love for our mountain and its amazing community. For 20+ years she and her husband Tyler owned and operated skate and snowboard shops (Ruins) in Prince George, Quesnel and Terrace promoting lifestyle and business. She has organized dozens of on hill events and volunteered countless hours on the mountain over the years. Tara was on the Board of Directors for the first 4 years MMC operated Shames Mountain as a community-owned cooperative. She’s motivated to be back on the board to support sound business management and ensure the viability of our mountain for years to come.

Amelia Andrews has been living in the northwest, first Kitimat, now Terrace, since 2015. She’s been skiing at Shames since she moved to the region and the ski hill has played a huge role in making this community home. Amelia is passionate about the positive impact Shames and My Mountain Co-op has on the health and quality of life of our local communities. When not skiing, she works as a community planner and spends her time mountain biking, trying to learn to garden and running with her dog.

Megan Dunstall moved to Terrace in 2018, switching from the beach culture of Australia to enjoy the rugged, mountainous lifestyle the region offers. Initially drawn to the northwest for a job opportunity, she quickly fell in love with the people and surroundings; the Shames community, in particular, became a second family. Megan learned to Ski at Shames Mountain and has now become a regular on the slopes throughout the winter. As a board member, Megan is driven to provide back to the community and to ensure a sustainable mountain recreation experience is available for all to enjoy.

Jack Cherniawsky moved to Terrace four years ago. On his second day in town, a coworker took him for an after-work 80cm pow lap at Shames. Since that epic night, Jack has had countless amazing adventures with welcoming locals and he proudly calls Terrace home. Jack can continue to be found enjoying Shames and the nearby backcountry with his partner Nicole every weekend during the season.
Jack works as a community planning consultant and has experience in project management and land development. He is interested in applying his skills to help MMC continue to grow sustainably and operate Shames Mountain for years to come.
Officer of the Board
In the event that there is an open seat on the Board, an Officer of the Board can be appointed by the Board of Directors. An officer of the Board takes on the role of a director for a period of one year or up until the next Board of Director election.
